Amietta Shiraz
The fruit for the Amietta Shiraz grows on the side of the Moorabool River Valley on a naturally terraced area of black volcanic clay underlain by soft white limestone. Yields are kept low (1.5 tonnes/acre) to enhance the intensity of flavours. We practise low intervention winemaking and the wine is aged in mainly French oak hogsheads (300L) for 12-24 months. Our style of Shiraz is vibrant yet elegant, intense yet accessible, and seduces rather than batters the senses. Shiraz drinks beautifully with a wide range of foods including red meat dishes, mushroom risotto and mature cheeses.

Since our first Shiraz release (2002 vintage) which went on to win Gold Medal and multiple trophies (Best Shiraz of Show, Best Wine of Show) and was rated 95/100 by James Halliday, each release of Amietta Shiraz has continued to draw rich praise from judges, wine writers and the public. It has distinctive floral/violet aromas and minerally characters which derive directly from the limestone and clay soil in which the vines grow, as well as a full expression of Shiraz varietal characters.

2005 Shiraz
This is an exhilarating, complex, terroir driven Shiraz. It has rich flavours of spicy red and black berries, violets, spice, leather and forest floor supported by a spine of cool climate acidity. Fourteen months in French oak 300 litre ‘hogsheads’ has resulted in a finely balanced wine underpinned by earthy terroir characters. This wine was made from hand-picked fruit grown at the Amietta Vineyard on the edge of the Moorabool Valley near Bannockburn. An excellent wine to drink now, it will continue to mature over the next ten years.
